Let's be real, we have a problem up here....
The truth about addiction in Northern BC:

Drug use in Northern BC is different from drug use in the lower mainland. While the drug of choice there is fentanyl / heroin, the most commonly used drugs in the North are often stimulants: meth, crack cocaine and cocaine. As such, the policies and responses that work down south are not working up here...and it's not your fault...

Were you injured at work and now hooked on pain killers?
Are your bored at camp, missing your family?
Are you at a dry camp so you use meth to party?
Or cocaine to stay awake for those long hours, days and night shifts...
Does your life feel like groundhog day? Same shit over and over and over....Surely there's more to life.....?

Maybe you're close to losing your...
job
licence
vehicle
home
spouse
dog
kids
..... and that leaves you .... where?

...and how has this contributed to your life style?

....... and how can you fix what is broken....?

About Us - The Road Forward
Recovery from addiction can be achieved in many ways. Relapse is a common but not necessary part of the journey. Detox is often necessary, followed by Post Acute Withdrawal Symptoms, and a sense of feeling lost, vulnerable or angry.
No-bull: this isn't super fun! It's one of the hardest things you'll do, but it can be done. Do yourself a favour and get some support - someone with professional and firsthand experience.

I offer unique services of walk or home therapy: I literally meet you where you are at (no worries, I have safety tokens). Sometimes meeting in the home setting is better; sometimes meeting for regular walks beats meeting in the office. But the neutral ground of my office can help to help you to get real and face your demons.

..... ok, so I can be tough and tell the truth....
but I believe in respect and compassion and solid tools.

Gabriela McGreal RSW, RPC, MAC&P

I am a woman in long term recovery (it's been over 30 years for me) and have supported men and women struggling with addiction for just as long. I started with a counselling certificate (2001), a Bachelors in Social Work (2013) and finished my Master's in Addiction Counselling & Prevention in 2024 (University of South Dakota). I worked at Turning Point, Baldy Hughes, in Corrections, health authorities and in my private practice. My work in prison probably taught me the most.... there are few things that will surprise me - and believe me: all is forgivable. I am a mix of tough love, compassion, humour, wisdom and common sense.
